Lebanese youth together to rebuild Beirut

With the absence of government efforts following the collapse of Beirut due to the blast at the city’s port, Lebanese youth volunteers were the only hope to rebuild Beirut or at least clean up the wreck of what has left in Beirut.

Whether they belong to associations, scouts or took the initiative individually, young volunteers from different Lebanese regions went on the devastated streets to provide help and assistance to grieving people of Beirut after the disaster. The volunteers set tents in Beirut, began cleaning, offering help and donating meals and water, since the second day following the explosion.

 

 

Some volunteers shared some information on how to volunteer in order to re-build Beirut, with the needed equipment from heavy duty brooms to bin wheels, trash bags and meals.

 

 

 

Some associations or initiatives which are contributing in cleaning the streets and offering help called more volunteers to join in, provide subsistence or donate money for Beirut relief.

 

 

The "Menteshrin" movement also contributes in offering help for people of Beirut, who were heavily affected by the explosion; providing them with food baskets.

 

 

“Muwatin Lebnene” is also one of the volunteering initiative that is working on organizing youths and calling volunteers to go to people’s homes and write down exactly what they need in terms of supplies, first aid until Red Cross arrives and clean up. The movement indicated that the most important thing now for volunteers is to determine the needs of people and the size of devastation.

 

 

 

“Afaal" movement is calling everyone with broken glass, not to throw them randomly in waste, because it can be recycled and crushed into cement, reused for reforestation efforts. They are asking Lebanese citizens to: collect the glass in cardboard boxes or jutte bag, and then contact them to pass by and collect them.

 

The efforts of Lebanese youth and volunteers remain until the very moment to restore what’s been wrecked in Beirut and lend a hand for people who need help more than ever so they can overcome this nightmare.
