Women Prefer Dating Taller Guys

Can you describe how a perfect man would look for you?

Features will not exclude his height, and you will most likelychoose a tall man, who has a nice smile, and your favorite eye color, hair and skin...to be your life partner. Some would say that physical appearance does not matter, but in fact, it does, even if just a little, because some characteristics attract you in a man more than others in terms of physical appearance. This does not mean that you cannot fall for the personality of your partner.

A growing number of studies have shown that tall men are generally paid better and are viewed as more masculine and competent, which is more attractive to women.

Abigail Weitzman, a researcher and author of a study published in the National Bureau of Economic Research, says:

“There seems to be an almost universal agreement among men and women that they would prefer to be in a relationship where the man is taller.”

Sure this might be a bit disappointing for short men, but it’s not all bad news for them;their relationships tend to last longer, although that may have more to do with their partners’ choices.

Weitzman says that shorter guys get divorced at lower rates. “This probably means that women who don't want to be in a relationship with short men are more likely to leave before they get married, rather than after,” Abigail noted.

But why most women are attracted to taller guys?

According to a Dutch study in 2013, a tall man appears stronger, masculine and leading, these qualities seems to attract women best. Looking as someone you can “looked up to”, may, at some subconscious level, lead taller men to feel that they have superior qualities.

However, power related to tall men may simply be part of the male-female power differential. No wonder, men may be taller due to hormonal influences translated into social attitudes.

The study included 650 participants who were asked to estimate their height, relationship status, their partner’s height and whether they were satisfied with his height. Turns out those women preferred a partner who is taller than them, and they tended to not want to be in a relationship in which they were taller than their male partners. Men liked being taller than their partners, but they didn’t care about the height difference as much as women did.
