This season, power dressing was the theme at Balenciaga. The creative director, Demna Gvasalia, told WWD that the collection was about dressing in a uniform. “It’s like fashion as uniform to me,” he said. “Like, I try to imagine and to kind of create this aesthetic uniform.” It’s the first collection for Gvasalia after his departure from Vetements earlier this month.
As models walked the runway, we saw blazers, suits, and sheath dresses, but we also noticed the overemphasized features: huge, angular shoulders, oversized cuts, massive ballgowns, gigantic puffer jackets…And then, when it came to beauty, it was very hard not to be impressed by the makeup that
included extreme cheek implants and enlarged lips. “This is what I feel my mission is about at Balenciaga, to continue experimenting with volume.” said Demna Gvasalia.
