Every girl needs a gentleman who is sweet romantic and treats her nicely. But why do we often fall for the “bad guy”?

Sure, it may be impossible to know what we want, however we all agree on one thing; extremely nice guys aren’t our type. Although, we might not know where this comes from, but the more challenging, rebellious the relationship is, the more exciting and desirable it becomes.

Well, scientific studies have revealed why women are more attracted to “bad boys”?

They are men who have a bold masculinity associated with exaggerated sexuality, according to Michael R. Cunningham, Ph.D., professor and psychologist at the University of Louisville. Also, Professor Madeleine A. Fugère describes them as rebellious and emotionally unavailable men.

Narcissistic: Feeling superior and better than others

Machiavellian: Rude person who takes advantage of others

Psychopathic: shows anti-social and impulsive behavior

Why women are often attracted to this type of men?

Science explains the truth behind this strange attraction to hostile and dominant behavior. Dr. Fugère says that according to researches, women are more attracted to masculine men during the middle of their menstrual cycle, when they’re most fertile. "Men with very masculine traits have better genes, which women find unconsciously attractive," she noted.

However, when women are asked what the qualities of an ideal partner are, they tend to mention the traits of a nice-man, such as honesty, trust and respect. Dr. Madeleine says: “In fact, they usually say they would actively avoid partners who are rude, disrespectful, or physically aggressive, thus, on a conscious level, I think most women recognize that bad boys don’t make good long-term partners.”

Also, women are more attracted to bad boys who have rebellious, bold characteristics that seem more interesting and fun for women. However, dating them can also lead to major problems, hurt feelings and ongoing conflicts...

In addition, bad boys may look like a taboo, which increases their attractiveness. When we want something that we cannot or should not have, it becomes more desirable.

Psychologist Robyn McKay explains: “Girls possess a range of traits, such as rebellion, but these traits are often suppressed during childhood, as females are socialized to be compliant and agreeable.” But if a girl cannot express what is inside her, then she may find it in the bad guy as a way to indirectly express her inner rebellion.

Experts agree that the "good girl" is highly attracted to the bad boy because he makes her feel free. Although this does not make him a suitable partner on the long run, however, he seems very attractive and worth the pain that comes as a result of dating him.
