When trying to follow a healthy diet, not only to lose weight but also to have a healthy lifestyle, it may be difficult for you to resist fast food or sweet chocolaty dessertscravings. Well, the key to achieve a healthy lifestyle, physically and mentally, is a good will.

When starting out with a new diet, the first thing you need to think of is to reduce the amounts you were consuming in the past. When eating healthy foods, put them in white dishes. Why? Because healthy foods look more appetizing when they arein a white plate or bowl. However, if you are eating something you’re addicted to, and you are aware that is not healthy for you, then trick your mind with a blue plate. Blue is known to curb your appetite, which will make youeat less than expected.

 

Eat meals in small dishes or bowls

A study published in the Journal of Consumer Research in 2012, discovered that people tend to eat much less when using small plates. This is because when you put your needed food quantity in a large dish, the mind thinks that you did not eat enough to feel full because food amount looks small inside the large dish. So, you tend to eat more. Whereas when eating from a small plate, the mind can be tricked by seeing a large amount of food, while you are eating your needed quantity without asking for more.

 

Cut food into small pieces

According to a study conducted by Arizona State University’s psychology department, cutting food into smaller pieces can trick your brain into thinking you’re eating more than you are, so you will eat less.So the next time you’re eating a sandwich for example, cut it into small portions instead of eating it all at once, and notice how you can feel fullquickly.

 

Avoid eating in front of the TV or computer

Avoid eating your meals in front of the TV or while working in front of the computer, because you will be distracted from your food intake while focusing on the movie you are watching, for example, or the work you are trying to accomplish. Instead, you need to eat at the dining table to be able to have your whole attention on the amount you are eating. It prevents overeating and avoids gaining more weight.

 

Chew food slowly

Another smart trick to feel full without eating a large amount of food is: chewing slowly. When you eat food quickly without chewing it well, it causes air to enter your guts which will lead to bloating. However, chewing slowly gives the brain the time to send the signs of fullness as well as preventing overeating andcurbing your appetite.
