After six years away from the stage, Céline Dion returned to live performance in Paris on September 12, opening the first night of her highly anticipated residency at the Plenitude Arena in Nanterre. For a singer whose relationship with the stage has always been inseparable from spectacle, emotion and fashion, the comeback was inevitably about more than music. It marked the return of one of pop’s most commanding performers—and she dressed the occasion accordingly.

Among the evening’s standout fashion moments was a custom Givenchy creation by Sarah Burton. Dion wore an intricately embroidered cut-out dress beneath a voluminous dusty-pink shredded organza cape, its delicate yet distressed texture creating movement around her silhouette. Black pointed pumps grounded the look, allowing the elaborate craftsmanship of the ensemble to remain the focus.

And the stage itself carried enormous emotional weight. Dion’s Paris return marked her first full concert in more than six years, following the health challenges that forced her away from live performance. She opened the sold-out evening with “On Ne Change Pas” and became visibly emotional only moments into the song, pausing as the significance of finally standing before an audience again appeared to overwhelm her.

The evening unfolded as a celebration of the catalogue that made Dion one of the world’s defining voices, moving between French and English-language classics and culminating in some of her most enduring performances. She delivered “My Heart Will Go On,” “All By Myself,” “Pour que tu m’aimes encore” and other career-defining songs across a more than two-hour set.

One of the evening’s most moving moments came when Céline Dion paid tribute to her idol, legendary opera singer Maria Callas, through a performance of Alfredo Catalani’s celebrated aria “Ebben? Ne andrò lontana” from La Wally. For the occasion, Dion changed into a second custom Givenchy creation by Sarah Burton: a silver-embroidered dress layered with a delicate powder-pink cape crafted from torn organza.

The singer appeared in a striking Givenchy dress entirely traced with silver embroidery, its luminous surface catching the light as she performed Alfredo Catalani’s La Wally. Draped over the embellished silhouette was a custom powder-pink cape crafted from torn organza, adding an ethereal, almost otherworldly quality to the look.
