Capharnaum for the Oscars

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has disclosed the selections for the 91st Academy Awards, set to occur on Sunday, February 24. Among the contenders is Nadine Labaki's politically-charged Capharnaüm. The Lebanese movie producer's politically-charged film has earned an Oscar designation in the Best Foreign Language Film classification.
Capharnaüm will go up against contenders including Alfonso Cuaron's Roma, Hirokazu Koreeda's Shoplifters, Paweł Pawlikowski's Cold War, and Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck's Never Look Away. Out of the 15 films presented by Lebanon for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language film since 1978, Capharnaüm is the second film to acquire an Oscar selection, nearby Ziad Doueiri's The Insult, honor in 2017.
The profoundly acclaimed film recounts the narrative of a 12-year-old kid in Beirut, who brings his parents to court for the act of bringing him to the tough and unfair life It got a 15-minute standing ovation following its debut at Cannes in May.
The motion picture, which previously brought home the current year's Cannes Film Festival Jury Prize, is likewise up for Best Foreign film at the up and coming 2019 BAFTA Awards. It was designated for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 2019 Critics' Choice Awards and 2019 Golden Globe Awards too.
Champs will be uncovered at the 91st yearly Academy Awards celebration on Sunday, February 24, 2019.
