Yesterday, Syrian actress Touline Al-Bakri went viral on social media after revealing that she’s suffering from a mental illness, in a rare and bold step taken by an Arab celebrity, who avoid opening up about their illnesses.
Touline surprised her fans yesterday in a post shared on her Facebook account as she talked about having bipolar disorder and wrote: "I have a bipolar disorder and I’m proud of it despite my unbearable mood swings, insanity and severe depression."
"I am proud to fight my mental crisis till this day… We are a few people of society that feel the most joyful when seeing a rainbow. We feel the weight of the world when anxious and also deeply saddened by the death of our favorite movie character. We are normal people but on a broader level than everyone else. We just live more."
She concluded her message saying:
"Mental illness has never been and will never something to be ashamed of, whether or not you want to admit it."
Bipolar disorder is a complex mental illness that is difficult to treat. It causes excessive mood swings, including depression. These fluctuations can affect sleep, energy, and the ability to think clearly.
Touline Al-Bakri is not the only celebrity suffering from bipolar disease, actually many stars have opened up about their bipolar struggle, including Demi Lovato, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Mariah Carey, and Kanye West.
