Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were able to finally pay off the necessary renovation costs of Frogmore Cottage, their UK home, according to the couple’s statement read by their representative on Monday, one week after signing a deal with Netflix to produce various programs and shows.
After taking a step back from their royal duties, earlier this year, the couple was planning to pay the debt back, but after signing a deal with Netflix which is believed to be worth $150million, Harry and Meghan decided to pay back the money in one chunk.
This comes after the British Parliament was calling on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, to repay 2.4 million pounds of public funds spent on the renovation of their home in Windsor. They were coming under pressure to “give up” Frogmore Cottage, according to The Telegraph, especially after Megxit.
“They are very relieved and very pleased. This has been a pro-active step and something they wanted to do from the outset,” said a source close to the couple.
“There was no requirement for them to pay the money back but it was important to them that they did, and after the Netflix deal, they were in a position to do so. I think this is quite a significant moment for them.”
