One more Saudi Milestone crossed in the fashion scene. Hindamme, the Saudi brand founded by designer Mohammad Khoja is presenting its “Driving Jacket” at the London Victoria & Albert Museum.
We got used to hearing about Saudi success in fashion, with renowned brands ambitious to a point that breaking stereotypes and obstacles became their hobby, and Hindamme is booming fast.
The label announced that its “Driving Jacket” from 2018 went on permanent display at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, becoming the first Saudi contemporary piece to join the prestigious museum. The exhibition holds the largest and most comprehensive collection of dress in the world spanning 5 centuries, including some sixties, seventies and eighties designs, evening wear and daywear… Yes, the “Driving Jacket” just made history.
In a previous press interview, Khoja said: “I was moved by the decision to lift the ban on women driving, because it seemed like something that would never happen”. And he sees that Every country has historic days when things happen that shift the course of the future — and this is one of those dates. That was the inspiration. I thought, how can I, as a designer, pay tribute to this?
“I call it a driving jacket to commemorate the date.”
