Gucci Reinvents Iconic Lady Diana’s Favorite Bag

During its 100-year historic show, Italian brand Gucci reissued the “Diana” bag, an iconic design considered as an essential in Lady Diana’s wardrobe. On Lady Diana’s 60-year-old birthday, the bag is about to become available for purchasing, so here’s a way to pay homage to the Princess of Wales.
Following the rebirth of Jackie Kennedy's favorite bag, Gucci is bringing another favorite from the house's archives back to life: the “Diana” bag with its bamboo handles. First shown in 1991, it owes its name to no one other than the Princess of Wales, and has been seen on her arm on numerous occasions. This iconic nineties reissue, imagined by Alessandro Michele, resurfaces on the fashion scene almost twenty years after the original design caught the eye of Lady Di.

In the 1990s, as she moved away from the royal family following her divorce from Prince Charles, Princess Diana showed off a more daring and self-confident style. The trendy and oversized Gucci bag at the time evokes her personal freedom, far away from the small handbags "loved and appreciated" by the Royal dress codes.

A reinvented classic
This new adaptation fits in with the DNA of the Italian brand. The modern version is diff from the original by the neon leather belts attached around the bamboo handles. The design will be available starting July 6 in three sizes and seven colors. This proves once again that even twenty-six years after her tragic death, the “Queen of People’s Hearts” continues to reign over the fashion world, as an absolute fashion icon.
