Kristen Stewart to Play Princess Diana

Nobody expected the American actress Kristen Stewart to play the late Princess Diana in a new movie titled “Spencer”, which covers the princess' separation from Britain's crown prince, Prince Charles.

Twilight star faced criticism after announcing that she will embody Princess of Whales, especially by the British media, who see only a British actress play the role.

However, according to director Pablo Larraín, Kristen Stewart is one of the “great actors around today.”

“To do this well, you need something very important in film, which is mystery. Kristin can be many things, and she can be very mysterious and very fragile and ultimately very strong as well, which is what we need. The combination of those elements made me think of her,” he said.

The director also expressed his admiration for Kristen's performance when she auditioned and said:

"The way she responded to the script and how she is approaching the character, it’s very beautiful to see. I think she’s going to do something stunning and intriguing at the same time."

The movie is set in the early 1990s, it was written by Stephen Knight, the English screenwriter of “Peaky Blinders” on Netflix, according to reports.

British actress Naomi Watts played Diana’s character in “Diana” movie in 2013, as well as Irish actress Genevieve O'Reilly in the drama documentary “Diana: Last Days Of A Princess” in 2007. As Amy Seccombe played Princess Diana in a movie titled “Diana: A Tribute To The People's Princess” in 1998, one year after her death.
