This Iconic 2010’s Bag Is Making a Comeback

Adapted for professional settings and spotted multiple times on the set of The Devil Wears Prada 2, this bag is set to make a major comeback this spring.
In The Devil Wears Prada, Emily’s character (played by Emily Blunt) had snatched it from Andy Sachs… Twenty years later, Anne Hathaway has reclaimed her beloved satchel. This time, however, it’s far from a fashion faux pas. Several photos taken during the July shoot of The Devil Wears Prada 2 in New York show the actress carrying a vintage black leather Metropolitan briefcase by Coach—a classic yet chic choice signaling the revival of this 2010’s star bag.

From the 2010s It-Bag…
The satchel owes much of its popularity to British fashion icon Alexa Chung. After making it a wardrobe essential, she launched a collaborative version with Mulberry in 2010. The Alexa bag quickly became a bestseller for the luxury leather brand, transforming from a student’s staple to a true fashion must-have.

Almost fifteen years later, the satchel is back. Pinterest reported an 85% increase in searches for the bag last year, forecasting its strong return this year. And it’s easy to see why: worn by hand, crossbody, or over the shoulder, its versatility not only adds a preppy touch but also fits perfectly into professional settings.
This Season’s Must-Have
Paired with a feminine take on a banker suit, a gray tailored set, a plaid top with a pleated skirt, or a monochrome black or white outfit, Anne Hathaway proves that the satchel works with everything—from office attire to more casual looks.

Designers have taken notice, too. From Coach to Chanel, Hermès to Balenciaga, fashion houses are all offering their reinterpretations of the satchel this season. A trend to embrace now—just in time for the April 29 release of The Devil Wears Prada 2.
