The Art of Storytelling: Inside Hala Salem's Creative World

Some artists create beautiful objects; others create worlds. Lebanese multidisciplinary artist and designer Hala Salem clearly belongs to the latter. Through her paintings, collectible furniture, wallpapers, and beautiful sculptural pieces, she transforms memories, landscapes, architecture and cultural encounters into personal art pieces that are universally evocative. Each creation has its own story, an invitation to travel through places she has explored, emotions she has experienced, and inspirations she has carefully translated into form, texture, and pattern.
Originally trained in visual communication, Hala Salem developed her creative language through illustration and surface design before expanding her practice into painting, collectible furniture, and sculptural objects.
Over time, her work evolved into a multidisciplinary body of work that moves seamlessly between art, design, and interiors.
Her wallpaper collection Sonora, inspired by the landscapes of Arizona, reflects her fascination with natural forms and vast desert environments, while Touareg, inspired by her travels through Morocco, draws from the richness of pattern, ornamentation, and artisanal traditions. These explorations, together with her paintings and collectible pieces, are connected by a shared interest in texture, symbolism, craftsmanship, and emotional resonance.
Rather than limiting herself to a single discipline, Hala Salem approaches each medium as part of the same creative conversation. Through pattern, form, and material, she creates works that invite curiosity, evoke emotion, and establish meaningful connections between people and the spaces they inhabit.
To truly understand Hala Salem's creative universe, one must look closely at the pieces themselves. The following selection of works offers a glimpse into Salem's distinctive artistic language:
Cloud
Designed by Hala Salem and handcrafted in solid resin by skilled Lebanese artisans, this sculptural piece capture the fluid beauty of a cloud.
Cloud's organic form interacts with light, creating mesmerizing reflections and a sense of weightlessness. Each Cloud is unique, with colors that vary naturally in the production process, just as no two clouds in the sky are ever the same. This unpredictability makes every piece a one-of-a-kind expression of light and form, bringing elegance and serenity to any space.
Touareg Wallpaper

This design is printed on a handmade raffia background, metallized and laminated on fleece, creating a striking interplay of depth and dimension. A fusion of tradition and modern craftsmanship, it brings warmth and character to any space.

Sonora Wallpaper

Designed by Hala Salem, each brushstroke of Sonora Wallpaper reflects the desert’s natural beauty, evoking a sense of tranquility and timeless elegance.
Inspired by the breathtaking landscapes of the Sonoran Desert in Arizona, this hand-painted wallpaper captures the warm, golden light as it washes over towering cacti and rugged terrain. The Sonora collection is available exclusively at Pierre Frey.
Monolith

This piece continues Hala Salem’s exploration of form, language, and cultural memory. Built from black and white marble with bands of brass, the Monolith features engraved quotes, from Fairuz’s lyrics to Amin Rihani’s words, connecting material with message.
The Monolith reflects on themes of dignity, identity, and presence through minimal geometry and strong contrasts. Installed in 2025, it follows Hala's earlier work Presence of Absence, and builds on the same intention: using solid forms to hold meaning in space.
