Who’s Behind Khaite?

The American brand Khaite (which is pronounced Cate, like Holstein's abbreviated first name, and which means “long, flowing hair” in Greek) was founded in 2016 by designer Catherine Holstein who “doesn’t design basics but cherished objects”, she said to Vogue after her Spring/Summer 2020 show. Also, The New York Times described Khaite as the “Low-Key label to know and one of the most interesting brands the paper has discovered”.

With the feminine touch, Holstein succeeded to grab A-list celebrities’ attentions, as the label appeared first on Katie Holmes who went viral in her Khaite Cashmere Cardigan and bra.

The Brand’s DNA

According to fashion critics, Phoebe Philo, Celine former designer, and Catherine Holstein are from the same school; they both design clothes that are not so much for women, but about women. Thus, Khaite came at the right moment, just before Philo quitted Celine, when the world needed a luxury brand to take over our everyday staples.

Khaite was also able to sell its collections online on Harvey Nichols, and other retailers. In addition, Khaite made its runway collection available online to shop after the show was done.
