The Tunisian model and actress says no to plastic

Azza Slimene is not only the Tunisian model signed by Next Model Paris, who graced the covers of magazines and walked for Chanel, Alexis Mabille, Yohji Yamamoto, Rabih Kayrouz, and Rami Kadi among others. She is not only the actress who made her debut in the series « Ouled Moufida »; she is a fierce feminist and environmental activist, as you can see on many of her Instagram posts.
Being an environmental activist means making fashion choices that do not harm the environment, and one of the major polluter is plastic. According to a study conducted in 2020 by the Oceana, the organization focused on ocean conservation, 34 billion plastic bottles enter the ocean each year; an ecological disaster. Therefore, all the industries, including the fashion industry, cannot ignore their environmental footprint anymore. Luckily, more brands are embracing ethical practices and committing in the production of eco sustainable clothes and shoes.
A few days ago, Azza shared on Instagram a couple of photos of her wearing a pair of sustainable and plastic-free sneakers, a collaboration she did with Yatay, an eco-chic brand launched in 2018 which specializes in sustainable Made in Italy sneakers. “Yatay sneakers are PETA-approved and for each pair sold a tree is planted. Our green efforts involve the company in its totality” as stated in the company’s mission on their website.
We did our little research, and these sneakers worn by Azza are available on Yatay’s website; they are 100% plastic-free, and their name is…Azza Slimene. “Azza was inspired by summer. The sky and the sea were, for her, a clear source of inspiration. Lively and super eclectic.”
