Balenciaga Releases A Sneaker You Can’t Even Wear
Augustin Bougro – Madame Figaro
24-November-2020

As part of its new “Objects” project, a category of items produced outside of the fashion collections that Balenciaga launched recently, the house is unveiling the very first decorative item in the “Objects” project: a sneaker intended to decorate your homes.
Fashionable, yes, but always in a non-conformist spirit, because after all, this is the credo that has been Demna Gvasalia’s, artistic director at Balenciaga since October 7, 2015. And if fashion is a conceptual world for the Georgian designer, so is the world of home decoration. A few weeks before Christmas, the great French fashion house is launching its “Objects” project. The concept? Transform everyday objects into real trophies, and release them in limited series. And the first winner is a Track.2 sneaker, all in metal, unveiled on November 20.
To mark the launch of this line of decorative objects, this Balenciaga sneaker is a design that is reinterpreted, but this time it is non-wearable. In size 41, the sneaker weighs just under 3 kilos. Made in Italy, it was designed from 16 pieces of cast brass, assembled one by one by hand. Then, they were soldered and sealed, before coating them with palladium.
Collectors have to hurry up, because the sneaker that costs more than 21000 dirhams on Balenciaga.com, is only produced in 20 pieces around the world, a very limited-edition piece. This is a new field the house is merging in, especially that it was positioned in the top 3 most popular fashion brands according to Lyst, at the beginning of 2020. And we can officially say that Balenciaga kicked off the décor adventure mixing both fashion and creativity.
