Crochet Dress: The Trend Of Summer 2021

When you think of crochet the first thing that crosses your mind is “grandma trend”. Well, forget about clichés and think more of boho-chic vibes when you see crochet.

Today, we will be focusing on crochet dresses, although this retro design technique is taking over our tops, skirts, bikinis, shorts, and accessories this season. If Ella Emhoff, Vice-President Kamala Harris’ stepdaughter, was one of the celebs who brought back the crochet trend by designing (and modeling) her very own ethically sourced crochet items, the hippy '70s-inspired trend was also spotted on the Spring/Summer 2021 runways of Bottega Veneta and Fendi. However, it was clearly Rihanna who caught our attention last month in her handmade cream knit dress by Barbadian crochet designer Shanice Taylor.

The neutral tone made it fresh and chic, while the cut is definitely hot and sexy, and not only Rihanna turned this crafty fabric hotter with her stunning body, she also nailed the styling as she paired the dress with Bottega Veneta mesh pumps and layered bracelets.  With plenty of YouTube and TikTok crochet tutorials, it is quite easy to recreate her look, but if you’re not feeling crafty, don’t worry we’ve got you covered!
