Elizabeth Debicki the new princess Diana of The Crown

Several actresses have played Princess Diana, the timeless fashion icon whose life and death are still controversial till today, in different series and movies; after announcing that Kristen Stewart will be Princess of Wales in the upcoming Spencer movie, Australian actress Elizabeth Debicki was recently named to play Lady Diana in "The Crown" series in its last two seasons.

The official page of the Netflix series has posted a picture of Debicki to announce her portrayal of Lady Diana in the series.

"Princess Diana's spirit, her words and her actions live in the hearts of so many," Debicki said in a statement posted by The Crown's official Instagram account. "It is my true privilege and honor to be joining this masterful series, which has had me absolutely hooked from episode one."

The Night Manager star will take over the role of Diana in the fifth and sixth season, after Emma Corrin, who played Princess Diana in the fourth season of The Crown.

On the other hand, the British actress, Imelda Staunton, will play Queen Elizabeth II in the final seasons of The Crown, succeeding the two actresses, Claire Foy and Olivia Coleman, who portrayed Queen Elizabeth II in previous seasons.

The Crown traces the stages of Queen Elizabeth II’s life, including her political struggles, as well as her main life events, as the last 2 seasons will cover the Queen's reign into the 21st century.
