Netflix Welcomes Its First Saudi Thriller

“Whispers” is the first Saudi Arabian series ever to hit the streaming service platform Netflix, the world's leading internet entertainment service with 158 million paid memberships in over 190 countries, on Thursday, June 11th.

This is a huge step for Saudi drama, as it is a chance to show the world how the social dynamics in Saudi Arabia have changed, especiallywithstrong female leads playingunconventional roles, under the direction of female Saudi director Hana AlOmair.

"Whispers" is a limited series of8 episodes only, produced by the Saudi Entertainment Phenomena Company “EP Saudi”, and available in 20 different translations. This thriller tells the story of a family dealing with the sudden death of the family patriarch, Hassan,only to discover his past full of mysteries. However, each member of this family has his own secrets that he is keen to keep away from everybody and each episode reveals an unexpected secretof the story.

Many great Arab actors star in this First Saudi Netflix originals series: Abdul Mohsen Alnimer, Shaima AlFadl, Maysoon AlRwaily, Elham Ali, Nada Tawhid, Norah AlAnbar, Laila Arabi, Ali A’lSharif, Osama AlKass and Mohammad Ali.

5 days after its official release on Netflix, viewers gave their feedback on this suspenseful series; the majority agreed that it was a great move not only for Saudi production but also because this series tell the story behind a family patriarch’s death from the perspectives of the different women in his life. Although there were some mistakes, they did not affect the beauty of this drama series.
