The topic divides even the experts. Here's an explanation of the positive and counterproductive effects that double shampooing could have.

Some experts recommend double shampooing to ensure the hair is clean, while others advise against it, especially if you wash your hair too frequently. So, how should one decide? Let's clear up the misconceptions about shampooing: one shampoo may be enough, but for those who do not wash their hair daily, a double shampoo might be preferable.

Shampoo as a Defense Against Dirt
The purpose of the first shampoo is to rid the hair of the day's assaults: sweat, dust, pollution. "Most products today are designed for single application. A second shampoo may be beneficial when dry shampoo has been used beforehand," explains Caroline Bufalini, a studio hairstylist who has shared her insights on proper hair care routines.

"The Second Has a Treating Effect"
However, not all hair experts agree on the double shampooing method. Caroline Bufalini, a specialist from L'Oréal, supports the practice: "The first shampoo cleans, and the second has a treating effect." Yet, she cautions that those who are exposed to dust, pollution, or sweat and wash their hair daily might not need to shampoo twice. "There's a trick to determine if a second application is necessary: slide your fingers through your hair after rinsing. If it feels tangled, it might be better to shampoo again or use a conditioner to prevent breakage during brushing."
