Balenciaga Ready-to-Wear Fall/Winter 24
Madame Figaro
6-June-2024
For Demna, Creative director of Balenciaga, the new Fall/Winter collection is a link between the past and future of Balenciaga, referencing silhouettes pulled from the archives, but melding them with his personal obsessions and stylistic tropes. The show opened with more toned-down silhouettes, such as Cristóbal Balenciaga-inspired strapless maxis with "hip-aulettes", but as it continued, the lineup grew into trashed fur coats, ball gowns and bubble dresses that were crafted from mashed-up sweatshirts and piled-up lingerie; repurposing pants and wide-shouldered tops, deconstructing backpacks and the ‘Hourglass’ jackets that Demna debuted for his first catwalk show in 2016.
