Chanel Cruise 2026/2027: A Return to Biarritz

For its Cruise 2026/2027 collection, Chanel returns to Biarritz—the very place where Gabrielle Chanel first established her haute couture house in 1915. Biarritz is a foundational chapter in the house’s story, where a new, liberated vision of elegance first took shape.
Back then, after her early success in Paris and seaside boutiques in Deauville and Monte Carlo, Gabrielle Chanel chose the Basque coast as the ideal backdrop to refine her aesthetic. At the Villa de Larralde, just steps from the sea, she built a space that combined boutique, atelier, and private residence—an early blueprint for what would later become the iconic 31 Rue Cambon. Away from the rigid codes of Parisian fashion, Biarritz offered freedom—and that spirit still lingers.
Titled Sous le Salon la Plage, the collection, designed by Matthieu Blazy, captures that same duality: structure and ease, refinement and escape. It’s a quiet yet confident debut Cruise collection that feels rooted in the house’s past while moving effortlessly into the present.
The opening was a reinterpretation of Chanel’s iconic 1926 little black dress, its clean geometry revisited with a sculptural twist. From there, the collection unfolded like a walk along the coast. There were references to the sea in every detail: coral-inspired dresses, fishing-net layering, and fluid silhouettes that echoed movement and air. The classic Breton stripe appeared as a direct nod to Chanel’s own wardrobe. Even the Jersey—once revolutionary in Chanel’s hands—returns in modern forms, continuing its legacy of comfort and freedom.
The Accessories Extending the Story
What added a freshness to the runway were the accessories: Mini suitcase bags, oversized beach totes, and even the waterproof flap bags suggested movement and travel. Jewelry draws directly from Biarritz, with shell motifs and pearls reflecting the coastline and its Art Deco charm.
By the finale, with its subtle mermaid references, the collection felt complete: immersive, cohesive, and deeply connected to place.
