The Romantic Proposal of Charles Leclerc to Alexandra Saint Mleux

The Monegasque racing driver has proposed to the woman he’s been with since March 2023. And to make his mission a success, he got some very special help from Leo, his famous dachshund.

Monaco is about to host another royal wedding. After two and a half years together, Formula 1 driver Charles Leclerc has asked for the hand of his girlfriend, Alexandra Saint Mleux. The couple — the future “Mr. & Mrs. Leclerc” — announced the news in an Instagram post on Sunday, November 2, revealing behind-the-scenes moments from the driver’s proposal, straight out of a Hollywood-style romantic comedy.

To ask the most important question of his life, the 28-year-old went all out: thousands of candles and red rose petals, champagne, heart-shaped cookies engraved with their initials “A & C,” and a special guest… The couple’s long-haired dachshund, Leo, stole the spotlight from his famous dad, wearing a golden bow tie collar inscribed with “Dad wants to marry you.” A true mascot of the Formula 1 paddock, the dog has been accompanying Alexandra Saint Mleux and Charles Leclerc to races around the world since he was adopted in spring 2024. And to his owner’s great joy, the proposal was met with a “Mom said yes.”

“So happy for you two!” commented designer Simon Porte Jacquemus. “Congratulations!!!!” added content creator Léna Mahfouf, a close friend of the couple.

Was Charles Leclerc inspired by his brother?

This will be the second wedding in the Leclerc family. On September 13, Charles’s older brother, Lorenzo Tolotta-Leclerc, married the love of his life in Lecce, southern Italy, during a princely ceremony worthy of a true Mediterranean fairytale. As a bridesmaid at the event, Alexandra Saint Mleux wore a flowing pale pink off-shoulder gown. There’s no doubt that the celebration helped inspire Charles Leclerc to take the leap. Although no details or dates have been shared yet, this wedding is already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated events of the coming months.
