Kate Middleton’s Way to Pay Tribute to Princess Diana

Although Princess Diana, who would have turned 59 on July 1st, and Kate Middleton have never had the chance to meet, however, Lady D left her son's wife a stylish heritage from which the Duchess of Cambridge is subtly inspired. The proofs are in the pictures.

Lady Diana and Kate Middleton do not only have the unconditional love of the English people (and that of Prince William) in common, but also both two women were able to be the subject of the British Crown, thanks to their kindness and smile. Their elegance is still something people talk about. Every Duchess of Cambridge’s outfit is analyzed, commented on and copied. Like those of her mother-in-law back in her time.

However, the press and their fans are not fooled. In her style choices, the Prince William’s wife gave many glimpses and tributes to the so-called "princess of hearts". Whether they are conscious or not, these references are obvious if you go back into the archives of the Princess’ wardrobe, who tragically passed away on August 31st, 1997, in a horrible car accident at the Alma bridge, in Paris.

Mutual elegant simplicity

Prince William doesn’t deny this bond that unites these two women. First, he proposed to Kate with his late mother's engagement ring, an elegant sapphire studded with diamonds. Also, Kate Middleton make sure to add the little details that will rekindle the memories of those who knew Diana Spencer. On several events; at the annual diplomatic dinner of Queen Elizabeth II or even at a state banquet given in honor of King Philip VI and his wife Queen Letizia of Spain, Kate wore one of her mother-in-law's favorite jewels: the tiara called “Lover's Knot.”

No one could ignore the polka dot dress that the Duchess of Cambridge chose to wear to introduce George to the press ... just like Diana, who showed William in a similar dress. Also, the red dress, which Kate opted after the birth of her second son, echoes the dress her mother-in-law wore after the birth of Prince Harry. Both women had mutual everyday looks as well: a pair of Superga sneakers or the mutual elegant simplicity.

For a family photo taken for Prince Charles’ 70th birthday in November 2018, the Duchess of Cambridge didn’t fail to pay a nice tribute to Lady Diana with an Alessandra Rich dress evoking a design worn by William and Harry’s mother in 1985; a blue dress with white polka dots and wide collar.  Once again the similarities are confusing.

People have not failed to spot the resemblance between the outfit chosen for Prince Louis and that Diana displayed for William, at the same age.

Less Rebelling Style for Kate Middleton

They may look similar in their style choice, however, Kate Middleton does not stupidly copy, she reclaims a look with a touch of modernity. Lady Diana's wardrobe is often emblematic of the 1980s: Large shoulders, boyish sweatshirts, flashy colors ... A bold style. Her daughter-in-law is also wiser: less skin, flared dresses.

If we analyze in the looks of Prince Charles’ ex-wife, we notice that her style was a way to express her unhappy marriage. On the contrary, we notice consistency with Kate who reflects a balance in her family life. Unless it is the influence of Queen Elizabeth, to whom Diana escaped, her Majesty is reassured, Kate Middleton seems a student more than a rebel.
