Milan Fashion Week SS 2021 Highlights

Milan Fashion week, which took place from September 22 to September 28, just proved that the Italian city is stronger than ever. While it is still recording new cases of Covid-19 t, the city welcomed press, buyers, and celebrities from all over the world for its “SS21 Milan Fashion Week”, in a new format: great safety and caution measures, as well as a combination of digital and live presentations.

As it comes to an end, here are the major highlights from the shows.

 

Shows we loved

In Versace’s Versapolis, we went underwater, where we enjoyed the submerged style inspired by the beauty of the underwater world and all the starfish prints. In a fantasy world, models wore the Trésor de la Mer print, dresses inspired by the moves of a wave, and fluid fabrics rolled into twisted ruffles.

 

 

Sportmax took us on a 90’s tour with some pop orange staples, electric looks and striped suits, mixing soft and hard vibes altogether in a 90’s grunge. The SS21 Collection unravels in a succession of dualistic contrasts like the plays of transparency and layering.

 

 

Dolce & Gabbana’s show was all about long flowy dresses, vests, long shorts, prints and button embellishments. We did not miss oversized bags and Patchwork boots. A celebration of Sicily and the contrasts that render it unique, Dolce and Gabbana Sicilian Patchwork featured a union of forms, colors and fabrics.

 

 

At Prada, where we finally saw the collaboration between Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons’ results, we can say it was a mix of both ideologies. We fell in love with the 70’s geometric prints, the technical suiting, and the duchesse satin. We saw full-length midis, statement stilettos and feminine silhouettes.

 

 

Fendi’s rigorous silhouettes, bright tones and other barely there tones showed unexpected contrast with classical features, as the Roman maison chose to give crisp cotton and lightweight linens a realm of luxury.

 

 

At Alberta Ferretti, as usually, we fell in love again with her iconic embroideries. We loved the new twist the tie-die trend and we can’t wait to wear those flowy chiffon dresses next summer.

 

 

 

Short films we fell in love with

Moschino: Call them marionettes, puppet models or whatever, Jeremy Scott’s creative mind made us understand in his SS21 collection that in order to grow big, you have to start small. Front rows guests were also puppets, sitting and watching.

 

 

Tod's: The Italian house gave us a lively Zoom montage with models from staged living rooms around the world dancing in the latest collection. The new kitten heels, colored leathers and soft knits grabbed our attention.

 

 

 

Brunello Cucinelli: the Italian luxury fashion brand offered some glam-safari looks that were presented like a moving look book. Sheer shirt dresses, straw crochet vests and perfect linen suits all in sandy hues continue to be iconic for Cuccinelli.

 

 

Valentino in Milan

Pierpaolo Piccioli turned a warehouse into a greenhouse, arranging wildflowers and plants into the crevices of a dilapidated industrial building. It felt like a fierce call for hope, and a stubborn show of romanticism. More casual silhouettes were there including oversized shirtdresses and short-shorts all paired with.

 

 

 

Street style looks

Taking a look at the street styles in Milan Fashion week, we couldn’t but notice oversized coats, tiny handbags, miniskirts and lots and lots of colors. Monochrome looks were also there, jeans appeared more than usual, and square-toed shoes were also a thing, so they’re apparently here to stay. Chunky boots were definitely a must and you protective face masks were everywhere.
