3 Common Nail Polish Application Mistakes

If it is hard for you to master polishing your nails, as if you got them done at the nail salon, avoid these little common mistakes to apply nail polish like a pro at home.

During SS20 haute couture shows, we met the nail technicians team. Designer Alexis Mabille chose a green nail polish to ensure the perfection of nails beauty on its show. The team members told us about the common mistakes that ruin our manicures. Remember the following mistakes and try to avoid them to have your nails perfectly polished and lasting for more than 24hrs.

Not removing nail polish completely

It is the step that is most often forgotten and which can change everything. "It is important to wash your hands well and use nail polish remover to wipe with a cotton pad on each nail before applying the base," explains Clara Benali from the nails technician team.

“This allows a good nail polish application, but also the product to dry properly.”

Ignoring manicure steps

When it comes to manicure, each product has its function. If some have understood that the base allows you to protect the nail and follow this basic step, well they might be skipping the two layers of nail polish or the top coat. The latter, for example, is not only there to bring shine, but it also protects the nail polish itself and will help it last longer.

"Thus, it is important to apply the nail polish properly, which means to cover all the edges of the nail, otherwise, the nail polish will be fragile and will flake quickly”, explains Stéphanie Pacart, artistic director of the brand.

Losing Patience

It is not necessary to wait between the two layers of nail polish, as the time you spend doing the other hand is enough.

"On the contrary, if we let the first layer dry too much, it will create a layering effect and it will come off," says Clara Benali.

On the other hand, it is recommended to wait at least 20 minutes before moving after getting your nails fully done. “In fact, if you wait for one hour, it is guaranteed that you won’t have any problem when moving because the nail polish will be completely dry by then. As if you wait for 20 minutes, it will apparently dry but not at the heart.”

Therefore, avoid slipping your hand in a pocket or looking for keys in your handbag for at least half an hour after getting your nails done. Also, forget about old school tricks like using a dryer to make it dry faster, because it might cause the nail polish to fade, since heat can melt it.
