Meghan Markle Pays a Stylish Tribute to Lady Diana

It seems like Meghan Markle's Colombian fashion marathon is all about details. For the second day of her trip to Colombia with Prince Harry, the Duchess of Sussex made a very chic appearance at the Colegio La Giralda in Bogotá. Dressed for the occasion in an unbuttoned white blouse, black pants, and a beige coat, she particularly made a statement with her choice of accessories: wearing Chanel slingbacks and a pair of gold butterfly-shaped earrings. The same ones her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, wore in 1986.

The Butterfly Effect

Indeed, Lady Diana was photographed wearing these same earrings during a trip to Canada in May 1986. On that day, she also wore a matching necklace and opted for a full electric blue look. Thirty-eight years later, it is Meghan Markle who has chosen to wear them. This choice is not coincidental, especially during a school visit: before marrying Prince Charles, now King of England, Lady Diana worked as a kindergarten teacher in London. Throughout her reign, the Princess of Wales was known for her close relationship with her own children as well as with those of the public.

This was not the first time that Meghan Markle pays homage to Lady Diana. At the NAACP Image Awards in 2022, the Duchess of Sussex wore a dress which many internet users compared to previous outfits of Lady Di. In 2019, she also adopted a dark outfit on Remembrance Day, which echoed the one her late mother-in-law wore at the same event twenty-eight years earlier.
