Zendaya Pays Tribute to Whitney Houston and an Iconic Dress

Since her return to the red carpet, all eyes have been on her. After dazzling Paris during the Louis Vuitton show, Zendaya brought her glow to Los Angeles. The Euphoria actress attended the Black Women in Hollywood Awards, a ceremony organized to honor women of color in Hollywood. For the occasion, she wore an instantly recognizable Eugene Alexander dress.

A nod to Carrie Bradshaw

The white dress adorned with a large golden flower is by Eugene Alexander. The public first saw it in 2008 in Sex and the City: The Movie, the film adaptation of the famous series in which the character Carrie Bradshaw is played by Sarah Jessica Parker. But while SJP made the look iconic on screen, another legend had worn it before her: Whitney Houston.

A tribute to Whitney Houston

The singer wore the outfit on the cover of Life magazine in 1987, in a slightly different version. Two flowers, rather than one, decorated the chest, and the dress was longer. On Instagram, Zendaya’s stylist, Law Roach, confirmed the double reference.

A hint about her wedding?

It’s also worth noting that once again, Zendaya appeared in a white dress. Perhaps a way to stay in the spirit of her recent marriage to Tom Holland? Since her stylist revealed the news, the actress has not confirmed anything herself, but she seems to be letting the gold ring on her finger speak for her.
