Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammad Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah’s wife, President of the "Big Heart" Foundation, which helps children and families in vulnerable situations outside the UAE with the UNHCR, launched a campaign titled "Salam Li Beirut" (Peace for Beirut in Arabic), in order to provide aid and assistance for Lebanon’s relief after the horrific blast that occurred in Beirut port last week.
After Wassim Salibi and Rima Fakih launched Global Aid for Lebanon campaign, Sheikha Jawaher took the same initiative and launched a campaign in the UAE to support the people of Beirut. She announced the "Salam Beirut" campaign on Twitter, as she tweeted: "Peace for Beirut ... we are launching today, through the Big Heart Foundation, Salam Beirut campaign with love, support and loyalty from Sharjah, the Emirates and the whole world to the land and people of Lebanon. Lebanon deserves security and peace, and it is the time for fulfilment! ''
Sheikha Jawaher addressed to Lebanese people and said in another tweet: “For every family and citizen in Lebanon, from Sharjah and the Emirates, we are next to you. Lebanon’s tragedy is ours. We shall be near our brothers and sisters in Lebanon who lost their loved ones, their homes, in order to alleviate their suffering.”
The “Big Heart Foundation” campaign for Beirut, aims to provide shelter, food and treatment in coordination with Lebanese associations. It will also contribute in removing the rubble, assessing the damage of buildings and identifying the requirements needed for restoration among other challenges such as providing solutions to lighting, sanitation and public safety problems.
